McLitter survey July 2023
Thirsk York Road services

All McLitter photos were taken in the area near the new McDonald's restaurant off York Road in July 2023 as part of a survey to measure the amount of McLitter being generated from the new service station. We're pleased that the operator is keen to minimise its litter impact and be a good neighbour, but sadly McDonald's is still number three nationally in the Surfers Against Sewage national survey of branded litter (after Coca Cola and Pepsico), which concluded that brands are 'failing to reduce packaging, switch to reuse models and enable recycling'. Hopefully we won't find that much here in Thirsk! Results at the end of July.

Email us your McLitter photos!

Here are the rules:

  • Must be a genuine photo shot "on location" and clearly showing the brand or product name

  • Only one litter item per photo

  • After photographing, you must remove the item to avoid double counting

  • You are allowed to turn the item around to show the brand name in your photo.

  • You can move the item a short way if it's difficult to photograph where it is (e.g. in the middle of a river).

  • Ideal photo size approx. 400 x 400 pixels. If you can, cut it down to size before sending.

  • Post on FB or email to thirskfoe@gmail.com
